Cuttlefish Bone Process Video

Client: This a video of the Cuttlefish Bone process. Photos shot by Emily McLaughry; she came to my studio and documented all the steps of the way. I’m excited to explore this old traditional technique that allows casting to happen in-house without needing a kiln. Every Cuttlefish Bone has a unique pattern (one of a kind, such as a fingerprint) that makes each design special. No Cuttlefish has been harmed in this process. I have found a source that finds the washed up bone on the beaches of New Zealand, not fished.
